Noisia- The Tide

I chose this track because of the easily identified sample, the infamous Amen break from the song Amen Brother, by The Winstons (1969).

In terms of digital sampling, the sample has been sped up significantly to match the BPM of the Noisia track. The individual drum beats have also been chopped and reorganized. Due to the time difference in release between the sampled track and the Noisia track, there is most likely some EQ and compression applied to bring it up to more modern quality standards, alongside the rest of the track.

In terms of socio-political implications, the Amen break is one of the most sampled pieces of music ever, and could be said as having defined DnB and Jungle. By including it in the track, Noisia are adding to its impact and fame, in addition to ‘standardising’. Its recognition will be noticed by the audience.

In terms of artistic result, the alternation between an original drum sequence and the classic sample allows the song to maintain its own sound, tying in with the artist personalities, whilst also linking itself to popular music culture.
